Best Bars, Clubs and Pubs in Sydney to Watch Sport and the 2022 World Cup

Best Sport Bars in Sydney

Once in every 4 hours, sydney-siders are left scratching their heads, wondering “What are the best venues to watch sport in Sydney” and “Where is going to be open to watch the World Cup?”. Inevitably, Football is on at the worst times for Sydney and Australia in general, with games being played all night, starting at 9pm and finishing at 9am. And everyone is well aware of how early venues close in Sydney, let alone on a Sunday or mid week.

Many venues are opening at specific times to broadcast the biggest sporting event in the world, while others are not. Here is our list of the best sports bars to watch sport and the World Cup.

The Star Casino, Sports Bar

80 Pyrmont St, Pyrmont NSW 2009

The Star Casino in Pyrmont is arguably the home of World Sport and big Sporting events. With a huge wall of screens and ample space to watch,  the Star Casino sees large crowds for most sporting finals, particularly State of Origin. The Star Casino is one of the few Sydney sport bars, clubs and pubs that have a 24 hour licence.

Cheers Sports Bar

561 George St, Sydney NSW 2000

Cheers Bar, in the City, is one of the most popular Sydney bars, clubs or pubs that showcases every English Premier League football game. For this reason, Cheers Bar is home to many EPL Supporter’s Clubs when their team plays. Cheers Bar is where Manchester City FC Sydney Suppoter’s Club and the Liverpool FC Sydney Supporter’s Club go to watch live football games in the early hours of the morning.

Cheers Bar is one of the best sports bars to watch the Socceroos, as it is expecting large crowds and an electric atmosphere.

Churchills Sports Bar

536 Anzac Parade, Kingsford NSW 2032

Churchills Sports Bar, in the Eastern Suburbs, is a known venue to watch sport, as it hosts 96 TV Screens showing sports from around the world. A common misconception is that there are 156 TV Screens. It is heavily argued that Churchills Sports Bar has the most TV screens in the Southern Hemisphere. At Churchills, you can watch a wide range of different sports from around the world at once. With several lots of pokies machines, it may be just as difficult to leave churchills as it is star casino.

Clovelly Hotel

381 Clovelly Rd, Clovelly NSW 2031

Tucked away in the inner suburbia of the Eastern Sports, Clovelly Hotel is most known for being a popular pub to watch UFC, cricket, tennis and rugby league. Cloey is predominantly a Rooster’s fans’ venue.

Clovelly Hotel hosts two large TV screens, one inside and one outside in the beer garden, as well as, a great TAB area downstairs as you first walk in. While Cloey is not traditionally football-minded, due to the number of viewing areas and the quality of the TV screens, it is a phenomenal venue to watch the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Hotel Steyne

75 The Corso, Manly NSW 2095

The Steyne is the home of sport in the North. Famously, the steyne beer garden has one of the biggest TV Screens in Sydney. The Steyne regularly sees large crowds for sporting games, such as the State of Origin, World Cup, Rugby League, English Premier League, Olympics and Cricket. Many of the people that go to the steyne support Manly Warringah Sea Eagles. Expect big crowds for Socceroos games throughout the Football World Cup.

Beach Road Hotel

71 Beach Rd, Bondi Beach NSW 2026

Bondi is very popular for backpackers, and tourists alike, to revisit and reside for short to long stays. Many of the backpackers come from parts of the world where football is the most popular sport. Beach Road Hotel is the main pubs in Bondi to watch sport. They will be open for all Socceroos games, as well as, all games that fall inside of their normal operating hours. Beach Road Hotel will not only be busy for Socceroos games, but also for Southern American, North American and European countries games filled with backpackers and ex-pats.

Marlborough Hotel

145 King St, Newtown NSW 2042

The Marly has set up special viewing areas specifically for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. There are not a lot of sports bars, clubs or pubs in Newtown and the Inner West Area, so the Marlborough Hotel facilitating people to watch sport and the World Cup is significant. The Marly will be open for all Socceroos games. With normally late closing hours, the marly is also a great spot to watch other games of the world cup. Hopefully, they make the same exception and effort for future sporting events in the future.
